As a professional counter person, YES YOU CAN TIP US! Should we demand you tip us? Fuck no. But if the person behind the counter is helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly, hells yeah you can give them a little sumthin’. We definitely appreciate it because some of us do a whole lot of work and receive none of the glory. Also, some of us are damn poor so being able to treat ourselves to an iced coffee or fancy candy bar is pretty awesome.
I get the most frustrated with Yelp reviews. Ill spend 20 to 45 mins with a person helping them go through tons of options for a piercing, giving advice on what will look best, what color suits there complexion, asking questions about types of colors they usually wear etc…..and then they go back get pierced then i ring them out…..Yelp review comes out and i am NOWHERE in it. Come on people! I spent a large amount of time hand picking the perfect piece of jewelry for you and i get stiffed!
I cry I cry
^^^^ all that
I agree with all of this! I have been mentioned in reviews in the past. I’ve compared my position as counter in the past to being a bus-boy or something else in the food industry. You do quite a bit of behind the scenes work. It’s somewhat like being the hostess at the same time. By no means am I trying to take away from the amazing skill of the people I work with, nor am I saying I deserve a tip, but if you’re willing to give your piercer a $15 tip for 10 minutes of their time after you and I spent 20+ minutes together….Everyone at a studio is part of the service you are receiving and any sort of acknowledgement of the work we all put into you having a positive experience is greatly appreciated.
